Tax Reporting and Compliance Specialist
The role involves leading a team of associates in overseeing tax reporting and compliance for annuity products.
Responsibilities include:
- Team Leadership: Leading, mentoring, and managing a team of 15-20 associates;
- Tax Reporting: Ensuring accurate and timely tax reporting for annuity products, including policyholder premiums, annuity payouts, interest and investment income, and return of principal;
- Tax Document Preparation: Overseeing preparation and review of tax documents and filings as per IRS and regulatory standards;
- Operational Activities: Executing daily, monthly, and quarterly activities to ensure proper tax treatment of annuity distributions;
- Collaboration: Collaborating with actuarial, finance, and legal teams to ensure consistency and accuracy in tax calculations;
- Issue Resolution: Addressing and resolving issues related to the taxability of death benefits;
- Beneficiary Tax Reporting: Ensuring proper tax reporting for beneficiaries and aligning reporting processes with current tax laws and policy guidelines;
- Tax Discrepancies: Identifying and resolving discrepancies or issues in tax treatment and reporting;
- Process Improvement: Driving process improvements and system enhancements to improve accuracy and efficiency;
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring adherence to internal controls and regulatory compliance; and supporting audits with relevant documentation and insights.
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent preferred;
- Experience: 7-10 years of experience in tax reporting or financial operations, preferably in insurance or annuity domain;
- Team Management: Proven experience in managing mid-sized teams and delivering results in a regulated environment;
- Tax Knowledge: Strong understanding of U.S. tax regulations related to annuity products and death benefits;
- Skills: Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills;
- Technical Skills: Proficient in MS Excel, tax systems, and reporting tools.
