Steel Detailer

We are seeking an experienced Steel Detailer to join our fabrication team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for detailing and reviewing drawings, preparing bills of materials, and managing procurement needs for projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret architectural and structural drawings to produce accurate shop drawings and bills of materials.
  • Use detailing software to model and detail steel components including stairs, railings, embeds, and structural steel.
  • Generate and organize CNC files, bolt lists, BOM and fabrication-ready documentation.
  • Collaborate with the project team to ensure drawings are clear, accurate, and coordinated with other trades.
  • Review drawings and shop details to identify all materials, hardware, and consumables required for fabrication and installation.
  • Create accurate takeoffs and prepare purchase lists for materials (steel shapes, plate, pipe/tube, fasteners, weld consumables, etc.).
  • Coordinate with approved vendors to request pricing, compare quotes, and prepare purchase orders.
  • Track material deliveries, lead times, and costs to ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Maintain procurement logs and communicate regularly with project managers, foremen, and fabrication leaders.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Tekla Structures or AutoCAD/Advance Steel is required.
  • Experience with Bluebeam Revu and Excel is also required.
  • Familiarity with Revit or Tekla EPM (FabSuite) is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of structural and architectural steel fabrication.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex architectural and structural drawings.
  • Experience preparing takeoffs and bills of materials from shop drawings.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal).
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
  • Prior experience working with U.S.-based construction or fabrication companies is preferred.
