Lead Airfield EngineerThe WSP Aviation team seeks a seasoned airfield engineer to take on the role of Principal Engineer in our Indian office. This individual will lead the growth and development of the GCC Airfield Engineering Team, forming a crucial part in its expansion. As the first member of this team, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering airfield civil engineering design and maintenance projects through various stages of design, from feasibility studies to detailed design and construction.CORE Responsibilities
  • Act as the design lead for airfield civil engineering projects.
  • Take ownership of project delivery, providing leadership and direction to junior team members, including planning their work and managing the delivery of multiple technical engineering projects.
  • Prepare technical reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications related to airfield engineering projects in both the UK and overseas.
  • Contribute to technical design reviews to meet quality management requirements.
  • Participate in the design process, providing technical input throughout.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, industry associates, and clients.
  • Identify and manage design risks, issues, and Request for Information (RFIs).
  • Support Project Managers by monitoring project progress and contributing to the development of project controls.
  • Implement technical quality requirements, address project briefs, and meet client deadlines.
  • Act as a role model, line manager, and mentor for staff.
  • Champion excellent health and safety in design.
  • Contribute to the recruitment and growth of the Aviation team in India.
Qualifications and Experience
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in civil infrastructure design at airports.
  • Experience working on large, complex airport projects from concept to detailed design and construction support.
  • Ability to manage engineering professionals in the delivery of technical aviation projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-leadership, attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Experience with international airfield design standards such as ICAO and FAA.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other airfield engineering design software packages.
