Job Title: SQL Database Application Administrator (DBA)

Lead small teams of data operations resources, including database administrators and developers.

Coordinate production release and fixes, identifying and advising on issues and Essential Job Functions.

  • Remediate as necessary, optimizing and performance tuning using execution plans, SQL Profile, and Database Tuning advisor.
  • Troubleshoot application database connectivity, SQL Server issues, query performance, disaster recovery, and other issues.
  • Work independently and as part of a team, meeting deadlines and handling stressful situations.
  • Manage multiple priorities, deliverables, and responsibilities.
  • Develop and utilize best practices, checklists, and defined processes.
  • Support during non-regular hours, nights, weekends, may be required.
  • Agile/Kanban, HIPAA, Health Care (Medicaid) familiarity a plus.
  • Learn new technical skills and assist in the design of basic technical programs.
  • Monitor database activity, files usage, and resources, ensuring necessary availability.
  • Analyze and resolve technical database issues of significance.
  • Oversee database performance characteristics, informational needs, data relationships, and attributes.
  • Recommend and implement tuning opportunities to improve system response and run times.
  • Design complex data structures to accommodate database production implementation, storage, and accessibility.
  • Develop load balancing architectures and processes to eliminate down time for backup processes.
  • Implement and support database security regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Plan and install upgrades of database management systems (DBMS) software as necessary.
  • Provide work leadership to less experienced personnel on a portfolio of databases.
  • Review and approve application and database design decisions.
  • Assist project managers in the development of project plans and estimates.
  • Integrate databases and commercial off the shelf software.
  • Design and test database installation, implementation, and recovery scenarios.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least ten years of data management experience.
  • Expertise as a SQL Server Application DBA working closely with application developers.
  • Strong expertise in DDL/DML.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure Cloud, Amazon Web Services, SQL Server IaaS, and Azure SQL database.
  • Experience working with computer hardware and software installation/upgrading procedures.
  • Experience working with database and system maintenance procedures.
  • Experience working with database creation techniques and database management systems (DBMS) features.
  • Experience with database performance tuning.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
  • Ability to work with minimal direction.
  • Ability to mentor and lead less experienced personnel.
