Senior Data Architect

The primary objective of this position is to facilitate effective data capture and analysis in the RD space through the development of conceptual and logical data models for initiatives, programs, and cross-RD capabilities. This role is critical for structured data capture and upkeep of models even beyond the conclusion of a project.

Data modelers will apply and assist in the definition and governance of data modelling and design standards, tools, best practices, and related development of any RD data capability.

This role requires collaboration with business analysts, data scientists, and other stakeholders to gather requirements, develop complex and scalable data models aligned to organizational long-term strategic goals, formulate data governance frameworks, policies, and standards, and establish best practices for data modelling ensuring interoperability among systems, applications, and data sources.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing conceptual and logical data models and data dictionaries/ontologies to cater to RD business needs and functional requirements; leading validation of physical data models
• Understanding data governance policies, standards, and procedures for RD data
• Maintaining modelling and naming standards, data harmonization, metadata management, and source-to-target data mapping documentation
• Evaluating and influencing projects while serving as voice-of-business; mapping systems/interfaces for data management, setting standards for future state, and closing the gap from current-to-future state
• Serving as functional and data consultant for RD initiatives with major platforms/technology implementations
• Maintaining documentation and acting as an expert on data definitions, data standards, data flows, legacy data structures/hierarchies, common data models, data harmonization, etc., for RD functions
• Educating and guiding RD teams on standards and information management principles, methodologies, best practices, etc.

Deliverables include:

• Conducting requirements gathering from business analysts, data scientists, and other stakeholders
• Developing complex and scalable data models aligned to organizational long-term strategic goals
• Formulating data governance frameworks, policies, and standards
• Establishing best practices for data modelling ensuring interoperability among systems, applications, and data sources

Experience: 5+ years of experience in data management, data analysis, data architecture, or other related fields

Demonstrated ability to understand end-to-end data use and business needs

Knowledge and/or experience of Pharma RD or life sciences data and data domains are critical

Experience with creating and applying data modelling best practices and naming conventions

Strong analytical problem-solving skills

Demonstrated strong attention to detail, quality, time management, and customer focus

Excellent written and oral communications skills

Strong networking, influencing, and negotiating skills, and superior problem-solving skills

Demonstrated willingness to make decisions and take responsibility for such

Excellent interpersonal skills (team player)

Knowledge and experience of data modelling, SQL, and database design are required

Knowledge and experience of RDF, NoSQL, and ontology are highly desired

Experience with pharma RD platforms; experience with requirements gathering, system design, and validation/quality/compliance requirements

Experience managing technology and/or data warehouse projects

Experience with hierarchical data models from conceptualization to database implementation

Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, Biology, or related; Master's preferred
