Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate innovative concepts for electric vehicles, focusing on their overall design and integration.
  • Understand the product application and customer requirements based on vehicle configuration, layout, and specification definition.
  • Develop comprehensive vehicle specifications, including detailed Electric components (Motor, Battery, etc.) and configuration generation, encompassing packaging concept for vehicle layout.
  • Familiarize yourself with regulation or homologation norms related to electric vehicles.
  • Acquire a basic understanding of Automotive Systems & interface requirements.
  • Conduct a thorough vehicle packaging & Integration Study for static & dynamic conditions, including articulation.
  • Pack proposed aggregates (assemblies) into the vehicle DMU layout.
  • Develop DFMEA, DFS, DFM, DFA solutions.
  • Perform engineering calculations as applicable for vehicle, examples include weight distribution, Performance calculation for vehicle, gradeability, traction, TCD, etc.
  • Undertake vehicle application study (Load body, special application etc.) & Body builder support.
  • Manage BOM creation and entire vehicle BOM management.
  • Benchmark new concepts.
  • Implement risk management for vehicles.
  • Assess the impact of one vehicle parameter change on life, function, assembly etc. for other parts.
  • Calculate TCO of vehicles (entire vehicle weight, fuel efficiency, turn around time, etc.).


Additional Responsibilities

Planning, Execution & Co-ordination:

  • Plan milestones for engineering activities for vehicle projects according to Quality Gates until SoP (Start of Production).
  • Coordinate within R&D function with Design Teams, Simulation Team (CAE), Proto Team, Testing Team & Homologation Team for overall execution.
  • Prepare reports/overviews on the current R&D status for various projects.
  • Interact with other cross-functional departments (representing R&D) & communication within R&D.
  • Ensure timely delivery of projects with high quality.
  • Prepare management reports and align with all stakeholders.


Requirements

Domain Knowledge:

  • Good domain knowledge in automobile, especially commercial Vehicles.
  • Good knowledge and experience in entire vehicle development process.
  • Strong knowledge of different applications in the market.
  • Conversant with different functions of automobile systems and CAD Analysis.
  • Experience in development processes from conceptualization to start of sales.
  • Exposure to QFD (quality function deployment), customer discussion for understanding gap & remedies.
  • General awareness of future technology – applications for automotive engineering.
  • Automotive Material knowledge.
  • Field visit for failure, issues, etc.
  • Problem-solving techniques & root cause analysis for field / warranty topics like 8D / fishbone, etc.


Software Skills

Required Tools:

  • UG NX software for handling DMU of Entire Vehicle and complex assemblies.
  • 3D modeling (& 2D drafting, if required) for concept generation.
  • Microsoft PowerPoint presentations and Excel.


Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Mechanical / Electronics / Mechatronics / Automobile Engineering / Equivalent Degree.


Experience

Desired Experience:

  • 6-12 years of experience in relevant industry (Commercial vehicle industry preferable).
