Teradata Performance DBA Role

We are seeking an experienced Teradata Performance DBA to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting.

Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing and optimizing Teradata SQL queries, TPT scripts, and other database-related tasks
  • Managing Production/Development databases performance
  • Reviewing Teradata system reports and providing performance assessment reports with recommendations to optimize the system
  • Investigating and quantifying opportunities from performance assessment reports and applying best practices
  • Maintaining optimal index analysis and recommending adding or dropping indexes for optimal data access
  • Analyzing uncompressed tables, implementing compression to save space and reduce IO activity
  • Optimizing locking statements in views, macros & queries to eliminate blocking contention
  • Reviewing Spool Limits for users and recommending optimal limits to avoid run-away queries
  • Checking for Mismatch data types in the system and making them unique to avoid costly translations during query processing
  • Reviewing Set tables and checking for options to convert to MultiSet to avoid costly duplicate row checking operations
  • Analyzing Large Scan Tables on the system and understanding space requirements and segregating disk space under perm, spool, and temp categories
  • Maintaining profiles, roles, access rights, and permissions for Teradata user groups and objects
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • 6-12 years of Teradata Performance DBA experience
  • Experience in reviewing poor performing queries and providing best practice recommendations
  • Statistics Management and Optimization skills
  • Knowledge of DWH Env (ETL/DI/BI Reporting)
  • Experience in fine-tuning application parameters and sessions for optimal functioning
  • Well-conversant with various ticketing systems, production change requests, and Teradata Incident management
  • Ability to write efficient SQL and exposure to query tuning
  • Preferable exposure to visualization tools like Tableau, PowerBI
  • Good working knowledge of UNIX shell and Python scripting
