Commis Chef Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Commis Chef to join our team. As a key member of the kitchen brigade, you will be responsible for preparing and presenting high-quality dishes that meet our exceptional standards.

As a Commis Chef, your primary focus will be on ensuring consistent great food production, performing tasks within a timely manner, contributing to Kitchen revenue through effective food cost control, providing support to the Kitchen brigade, preparing and presenting high-quality dishes within company guidelines, keeping all working areas clean and tidy, and preventing cross-contamination.

Additionally, you will be responsible for preparing all mis-en-place for all relevant menus, assisting other departments wherever necessary, maintaining good working relationships, reporting maintenance, hygiene, and hazard issues, complying with hotel security, fire regulations, and health and safety legislation.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Food Production: Prepare and present high-quality dishes to meet our exceptional standards.
  • Task Management: Perform tasks within a timely manner to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
  • Revenue Contribution: Contribute to Kitchen revenue through effective food cost control.
  • Team Support: Provide support to the Kitchen brigade and maintain good working relationships.
  • Maintenance and Hygiene: Report maintenance, hygiene, and hazard issues and ensure compliance with hotel security, fire regulations, and health and safety legislation.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Previous experience as a Commis Chef or Apprentice Chef.
  • NVQ Level 1 in Food Preparation and Cooking.
  • Positive attitude and good communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prove ability to work with a team and follow instruction.
  • A passion to learn and drive to succeed in a culinary/hospitality career.
  • Proof of completion in a basic food hygiene course.
  • A passion for food and the culinary arts.
  • Completion of an accredited commercial cookery course or trade apprenticeship.
  • Experience multi-tasking and working in an environment with rigorous standards.

It would be advantageous to have NVQ Level 2.
