Our firm is seeking an ambitious Tax Associate to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and reviewing tax returns, providing expert advice on tax matters, and assisting with government audits.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare personal, corporate, and trust income tax returns along with other tax elections.
  • Apply provisions of US tax treaty to cross-border tax transactions.
  • Assist with Sales tax filings and registrations.
  • Assist with cross-border transactions and other tax planning initiatives.
  • Prepare assigned sections of working papers to support income tax return filings.
  • Assist with government tax audits, including analytical support, information collection, response preparation, and direct interaction with clients and the IRS.
  • Closely collaborate with partners and senior staff to develop and implement effective strategies and client tax planning assignments.
  • Establish relationships with clients and gain a solid understanding of their business.
  • Develop and apply process management expertise (planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and controlling)
Required Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate should possess a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, with a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in preparing and reviewing tax returns. Prior experience in public accounting, particularly in tax, is highly desirable. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for interacting with clients and colleagues.

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in preparing/and or reviewing 1040 personal income tax returns and 1120 corporate income tax returns.
  • Public accounting experience (preferably in tax).
  • Effective communication skills to interact with clients for their tax matters.
  • A bachelor's degree – preferably in accounting.
  • Prior preference will be given to candidates with a Master's of Commerce.
  • Ability to complete engagement with limited supervision.
  • Experience working with accounting and tax software is considered an asset (ie, Proystems, FX, Gosystems, Drake Tax).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a team.
