Job Title: Same Day Surgery Coder

Overview

This crucial role is essential to the accuracy and efficiency of surgical procedures performed on the same day as patient admission. As a medical coder, responsibilities include reviewing and analyzing medical records, operative reports, and other documentation to assign appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes in accordance with coding guidelines and payer requirements.

Detailed Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze medical records, operative reports, and other documentation to ensure accurate coding of procedures and diagnoses.
  • Assign appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for same day surgeries in accordance with coding guidelines and payer requirements.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to clarify documentation when necessary to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding standards, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and enhance coding accuracy.
  • Provide education and support to clinical staff regarding proper documentation practices and coding requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports related to coding accuracy, productivity, and compliance.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in health information management or a related field is preferred.
  • Certification as a CPC (Certified Professional Coder), CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), or similar credential is preferred.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in medical coding, with specific experience in same day surgery coding preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and surgical procedures.
  • Proficient in coding software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
