Job Title: Chief Mechanical Design Engineer

As a senior mechanical design professional, you will be responsible for spearheading the end-to-end product development process of consumer and industrial electronic products.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the complete mechanical design lifecycle from concept to launch, ensuring seamless integration with cross-functional teams.
  • Translate customer requirements into innovative and manufacturable product designs, driving business growth through design excellence.
  • Develop detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks, incorporating full GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Perform design calculations, DFMEA, and tolerance analysis to ensure robust product performance and reliability.
  • Design products in plastics (injection moulding), sheet metal, die-casting, and machining, considering material selection for optimal performance and cost.
  • Ensure manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and cost optimization through hands-on experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping.
  • Build and test prototypes to identify design gaps early in the cycle, driving iteration and improvement.
  • Design products with proper thermal management, including passive cooling, heatsinks, and venting.
  • Preliminary structural analysis, drop testing, and reliability considerations are essential to delivering high-quality products.
  • Define and execute test protocols for functional verification, ensuring that products meet or exceed customer expectations.
Team Leadership & Collaboration:
  • Lead and mentor a small team of mechanical engineers, providing technical guidance and design reviews to foster growth and development.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with electrical, firmware, quality, sourcing, and manufacturing teams is crucial for success.
  • Work closely with vendors for prototyping, tooling, and production ramp-up, ensuring alignment with quality and performance requirements.
  • Review vendor DFM feedback and ensure that it meets our quality and performance standards.
  • Support project planning, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring timely completion and meeting customer needs.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including BoM, ECNs, ECOs, DHF/Design history, and PLM updates.
Nice to Have (Added Advantage):
  • Experience with project management methodologies, such as Agile or Stage-Gate.
  • Familiarity with PLM tools, configuration management, and documentation control.
  • Reliability engineering skills, including HALT and life testing.
  • Vendor management expertise for plastics, sheet metal, and tooling suppliers.
