Job Overview:

The Electrical Design Engineer role is crucial in ensuring that solar projects align with approved electrical designs, drawings, and safety standards.

This position provides on-ground electrical design support, prepares/modifies site-specific drawings when needed, and ensures smooth coordination with the project team for timely execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and understand electrical drawings issued by the project team.
  • Prepare or update site-specific electrical designs/drawings (e.g., cable routing, earthing design, junction box placement, panel room layouts).
  • Perform basic electrical design calculations (cable sizing, voltage drop, earthing resistance, load balancing).
  • Ensure site execution complies with approved drawings, standards, and codes.
  • Provide design clarifications/modifications to the site team and get necessary approvals from the project team.
  • Issue red-marked drawings/as-built drawings after execution.
  • Conduct field surveys to verify cable lengths, trench routes, and equipment locations before execution.
  • Coordinate with other teams to resolve interdisciplinary design issues.
  • Support the commissioning team with design-related clarifications during energization.
  • Maintain site-level design records, approvals, and revisions log.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in electrical design tools such as AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar software.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems in solar projects including PV array to inverter interconnection, LT/HT cabling, transformers, switchgear, earthing & lightning protection systems, SCADA and metering.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards such as CEA, IEC, and IS.
  • Ability to prepare quick and accurate design modifications at site.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills.
  • Problem-solving mindset for on-ground technical challenges.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (mandatory).
  • 5-8 years of experience in electrical design and site execution (solar/renewable/industrial projects preferred).
