Steelyard Engineer

The role of Steel Detailer and Procurement Specialist is crucial in supporting our operations. This position plays a key part in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of steel detailing and procurement processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpret architectural and structural drawings to produce accurate shop drawings and bills of materials.
• Use detailing software (Tekla Structures, AutoCAD/Advance Steel) to model and detail steel components including stairs, railings, embeds, and structural steel.
• Generate and organize CNC files, bolt lists, BOM, and fabrication-ready documentation.
• Collaborate with the project team to ensure drawings are clear, accurate, and coordinated with other trades.
• Procurement:
  • Review drawings and shop details to identify all materials, hardware, and consumables required for fabrication and installation.
  • Create accurate takeoffs and prepare purchase lists for materials (steel shapes, plate, pipe/tube, fasteners, weld consumables).
  • Coordinate with approved vendors to request pricing, compare quotes, and prepare purchase orders.
  • Track material deliveries, lead times, and costs to ensure alignment with project schedules.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Software Proficiency: Tekla Structures or AutoCAD/Advance Steel (required).
• Experience with Bluebeam Revu and Excel (required). Familiarity with Revit or Tekla EPM (FabSuite) is a plus.
• Strong understanding of structural and architectural steel fabrication.
• Ability to read and interpret complex architectural and structural drawings.
• Experience preparing takeoffs and bills of materials from shop drawings.
• Good communication skills in English (written and verbal).
• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
• Prior experience working with construction or fabrication companies is preferred.
