Medical Coding Specialist

The primary function of a Medical Coding Specialist is to review patient records and assign accurate and appropriate codes for medical procedures and diagnoses.

  • Codes are assigned in accordance with government and insurance regulations, ensuring compliance with medical coding guidelines and policies.
  • Patient charts and documents are thoroughly reviewed and verified for accuracy, ensuring the integrity of the coding process.
  • Clinical staff is communicated with regarding documentation, facilitating collaboration and improving overall care.
  • Information is searched and analyzed in complex or unusual cases, providing expert-level support.
  • Administrative duties are performed to improve provider productivity and clinic workflow, streamlining operations.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience as a Medical Coder.
  • Current certification in medical coding (CPC) or completion of a certification program.
  • A Bachelor's degree with a pre-health career track preferred.
  • Exceptional administrative writing, reporting, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and record-keeping software.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Expertise in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of ICD-X codes and CPT Procedures.
  • Proficiency in operating various medical record software and hardware, word-processing, and database software programs.
