Backend Software Engineer

This role involves designing, implementing and maintaining server-side services and APIs using Go and Python. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of concurrency patterns, error handling and idiomatic Go.

Key responsibilities include owning the design, implementation and maintenance of server-side services and APIs, delivering production-grade code that supports a scalable monolith/modular monolith architecture, making and documenting pragmatic system design decisions and implementing sensible defaults and 'privacy by design.'

The team is looking for someone who can collaborate with frontend, data and product teams to translate product requirements into technically sound solutions, participate in and lead code reviews, mentor junior engineers and raise the team's engineering bar.

The successful candidate will have practical, production experience with Go, Python, APIs and services, databases, testing and CI/CD, debugging and observability, and hands-on production experience.

  • Design and deliver RESTful and/or gRPC APIs
  • Experience with async patterns where relevant
  • Strong SQL skills (Postgres preferred) and familiarity with schema design, indexing, transactions and query optimization
