About Matsya Capital:

Matsya Capital is a cutting-edge investment firm focused on the Indian equity market. Founded in 2012, it operates on a traditional US hedge fund model. The founding partners have extensive experience in public equities and venture capital.

Prior to co-founding Matsya, the managing partner worked at two renowned, multi-billion-dollar hedge funds in New York as an investment analyst from 2005 until 2012. Matsya applies the principles of stock selection practiced at top global hedge funds to the Indian equity market. Its strategy is rooted in fundamental research, and investment decisions are based on a medium to long-term outlook on the stock and the sector it operates in. Expertise lies in identifying mis-understood situations and abnormal stock movements, followed by in-depth valuation of what is priced in and how that is likely to change.

The team consists of a small but extremely talented group with a very flat organisational structure.

Job Description

This role involves providing financial analysis and forming an investment thesis for the sector the analyst will work on. Responsibilities include tracking down and analysing industry/company data points available in the public domain, making presentations to the whole team, and handling administrative tasks shared by all members.

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong interest in capital markets
  • Able to fully understand businesses and sectors
  • Excellent skills in financial modelling, analysing income statements-balance sheets-cash flows and valuing companies
  • Prior experience building operating and financial models of companies and industries
  • Familiarity with basic principles of equity valuation
  • Exceptional skills in advanced Excel and PowerPoint
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail
  • 1-2 years of relevant work experience (sell-side or buy-side experience preferred)
