Backend Engineering Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated software engineer to join our team as an offshore consultant. This critical role will focus on migrating core functionality from our legacy system to a modern, event-driven architecture using Java Spring Boot microservices.

As a key member of our engineering team, your primary responsibility will be to deconstruct legacy code that handles crucial integrations with our platform and re-implement it as resilient, scalable, and cloud-native services. You will be instrumental in modernizing our event-handling stack, moving away from a central message broker to a distributed system built on Google Cloud Platform.

The ideal candidate is a proactive engineer who thrives on understanding complex systems, takes full ownership of their work from development to production, and is excited to leverage modern tools, including AI, to accelerate our migration efforts.

Our technologies include Java, Kotlin, SpringBoot, REST APIs, NodeJs, Microservices, GraphQL, React, Javascript, and GCP.

Responsibilities:

  • Design & Develop: Architect, build, and maintain high-performance, scalable Java Spring Boot microservices.
  • Legacy Code Migration: Analyze existing code that integrates with our loan servicing platform, understand its business logic, and lead its migration to the new Java stack.
  • Event-Driven Architecture: Decommission our legacy message broker and implement a modern event-driven system using cloud-native technologies like Google Cloud Pub/Sub.
  • Cloud-Native Solutions: Build and deploy services using Google Cloud Platform (GCP) technologies, including Cloud Functions, Spanner, and Firestore.
  • Code Quality & Deployment: Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code. Own the entire development lifecycle, demonstrating confidence in taking features to production through a robust CI/CD pipeline.
  • System Analysis: Go beyond the user story to develop a deep understanding of the entire system, identifying dependencies, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • AI-Powered Migration: Utilize AI-based tools and methodologies to assist in the analysis, translation, and refactoring of legacy code, improving the efficiency and accuracy of the migration.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience in backend software development, with a strong emphasis on enterprise-level systems.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Java and the Spring Boot framework.
  • Professional experience with .NET (C#), with a demonstrated ability to read, understand, and reverse-engineer legacy codebases.
  • Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), specifically with services like Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions, Spanner, and/or Firestore.
  • Deep understanding of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and event-driven design patterns.
  • Proven experience working with message brokers and event streaming platforms (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka, GCP Pub/Sub).
  • Strong understanding of relational and NoSQL databases.
