Job Role Overview:

The primary objective of an Intensive Care Unit Medical Officer is to manage critically ill patients within a hospital's ICU department.

This involves overseeing patient care before and after surgical procedures, as well as administering various medical treatments such as intubation and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Effective communication skills are crucial for this role, allowing the officer to collaborate with medical professionals and families while handling diverse cases including myocardial infarction, trauma, cardiology, and road traffic accidents.

In addition to patient management, the officer will be responsible for maintaining accurate medical records, updating prescriptions, and coordinating with consultants and other hospital staff as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage critically ill patients pre and post-operative
  • Assist consultants in the Intensive Care Unit, Theater recovery area, ward or other areas in the hospital as needed
  • Perform emergency investigations and procedures according to hospital policies and protocols
  • Maintain notes and treatment records of all attended patients
  • Update prescription of discharge patients as per respective consultant's
  • Conduct all procedures in ICU, including intubation, CPR, etc.
