Logistics Coordinator Job Description

The Logistics Coordinator is a pivotal role in our organization, ensuring the smooth operation of our supply chains. This high-pressure position requires exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle complex systems.

We are seeking a candidate who can perform at the apex of their abilities, optimize processes, maintain strong relationships with suppliers, distributors, and vendors, and navigate multiple transportation modes.

  • Obtain quotes and arrange transportation for minor equipment orders (LTL, FTL, containers, air freight, etc.).
  • Coordinate the transportation of over-dimensional, heavy lift project cargo, including break-bulk ocean, rail, heavy haul, multi-modal containers, trucking, barge, and air services.
  • Monitor and coordinate with freight forwarders, third-party agencies, ports, customs, subcontractors, and handling agencies to accelerate shipments and clearances.
  • Create bid tabs/requisitions for transportation costs and negotiate with customs/excise authorities for approvals/clearances.
  • Review drawings/packaging and verify shipping limitations between engineering and DOT regulations or carrier capabilities.
  • Attend logistics team meetings, site planning meetings, and project meetings, and supervise/loadings and off-loadings.
  • Manage freight budgets, report cost forecasts, and progress to schedule for assigned project deliverables.
  • Determine the most economical mode of transportation within given restrictions.
  • Obtain, audit, and communicate preliminary/final shipping details to relevant parties.
  • Track and problem-solve schedule-related issues and assist with technical issues related to obtaining import/export documentation.
  • Liaise with customs brokers for updated reporting procedures and valuations.
  • Expedite vendors to confirm RTS dates and packing list details, and review and approve freight invoices.
  • Create shipping documents incorporating HSN codes and complete essential paperwork required for merchant exporters.
  • Coordinate with Customs House Agents to generate shipping bills, maintain E-Seals, verify Bill of Lading/Airway Bill, obtain certificates of origin, and track materials according to purchase orders.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent degree from an accredited college is preferred.
  • Experience in logistics, operations, or project management is preferred.
  • 2-5 years of transportation/procurement experience is preferred.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are required.
  • Advanced analytical and computer skills are required.
  • Problem-solving abilities and excellent time management skills are essential.
