Residential Manager

As a Residential Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our hostel, ensuring a safe and student-friendly environment.

The ideal candidate will have excellent leadership skills, be able to work independently, and have a strong understanding of student needs and concerns.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee the management of the hostel's facilities, including accommodation, maintenance, and housekeeping.\
• Maintain updated records of hostel occupancy and ensure compliance with university policies.\
• Monitor and report any maintenance issues promptly.\
• Ensure hygienic conditions and proper functioning of hostel facilities.\
• Supervise support staff, including ward boys, housekeeping, and security personnel.\
• Coordinate with mess staff for quality food service and timely meals.\
• Liaise with university administration on hostel-related matters.\
• Organize hostel activities, orientation, and community-building events.\
• Ensure safety and security arrangements in the hostel premises.\
• Take prompt action during emergencies (medical, safety, or disciplinary).\
• Ensure compliance with fire safety and health regulations.\
• Develop and implement strategies to improve student satisfaction and retention.\
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure a seamless student experience.\
• Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in student residential management.\
• Lead by example and demonstrate a commitment to student-centered care.\
• Build and maintain positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff.\
• Communicate effectively and provide excellent customer service.\
• Manage conflicts and grievances in a fair and professional manner.\
• Address and resolve student complaints in a timely and satisfactory manner.\
• Identify opportunities for growth and improvement within the department.\
• Develop and implement training programs for support staff.\
• Conduct regular performance evaluations and coaching sessions.\
• Recommend promotions, salary increases, or terminations as needed.\
• Manage budgets and allocate resources effectively.\
• Prepare and submit regular reports on hostel operations, including occupancy rates, revenue, and expenses.\
• Develop and implement marketing strategies to attract and retain students.\
• Collaborate with admissions and recruitment teams to promote the hostel's services.\
• Provide exceptional customer service and respond to student inquiries and concerns.\
• Develop and maintain partnerships with local businesses and organizations to enhance the student experience.\
• Represent the hostel at university events and conferences.\
• Stay current with changes in laws, regulations, and policies affecting student housing.\
• Participate in ongoing professional development and training to stay up-to-date with industry best practices.\
• Perform other duties as assigned by the university administration.\
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve shared goals and objectives.\
• Support and contribute to the overall mission and vision of the university.\
• Comply with all relevant policies, procedures, and laws related to student housing and residence life.\
• Embody the values of the university and act as a role model for students, faculty, and staff.\
• Protect the privacy and confidentiality of student information.\
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student interactions and communications.\
• Use technology effectively to enhance the student experience and streamline operations.\
• Operate a range of equipment, including but not limited to computer systems, printers, phones, and audio-visual equipment.\
• Be aware of and comply with health and safety policies and procedures.\
• Report hazards and incidents promptly and take corrective action when necessary.\
• Perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.\
• Travel between sites and locations, occasionally overnight.\
• Work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of students.\
• Available for emergency call-outs, including evenings and weekends.\
• Will consider an Ex-Serviceman/ Woman as per VGU policy.
