Job Title:

Senior Associate - Indirect Tax Expert

About the Role:

We seek a seasoned professional with expertise in Indirect Tax Litigation to join our team. As a key member of our indirect tax litigation team, you will handle complex tax matters, including preparation of submissions, replies to notices, appeals, and representation before tax authorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Handle tax matters with regard to preparation of submissions, replies to notices, appeals etc., meeting the tax authorities, representation during appeals along with seniors etc.
  2. Assist clients in responding to tax department enquiries, investigations, and audits.
  3. Prepare replies to Show cause notice/audit replies.
  4. Meet with tax officers for hearings as required.
  5. Prepare tax appeals to be filed at the Joint Commissioner (Appeals)
  6. Prepare tax appeals to be filed at the Court (i.e. Tribunal, High Court / Supreme Court)
  7. Assist seniors in representing clients before judicial forums.
  8. Conduct comprehensive research on various topics.

Client Service Delivery/Execution:

  1. Proactively identify and discuss technical issues with clients while considering firm risk issues.
  2. Execute work on multiple client bases, assuming near-independent responsibility for smaller clients.
  3. Develop rapport with middle layers of client management.

Commercial Acumen:

  1. Stay up-to-date with firm-wide and competitor activities, as well as general business trends.
  2. Apply knowledge to deliver solutions to clients, bringing value to them and their managers.

Networking & Identification of Opportunities:

  1. Identify new opportunities for existing clients and communicate them to seniors.
  2. Network internally within the peer group and other levels in the firm to gain understanding of issues impacting clients.

Strong Knowledge Base:

  1. Stay abreast of the latest developments in tax and other laws.
  2. Contribute to the knowledge management activities of the firm.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and drafting skills.
  • Strong analytical and researching skills.
  • Proactive, reliable, and detail-oriented.

Requirements:

  • Law graduate from a reputable law school with a strong academic record.
  • 1-3 years of post-qualification experience in Indirect Tax would be preferred (GST, Customs, etc).
