DMSII Database Administrator Job Description

To ensure seamless data access, we are seeking an experienced DMSII Database Administrator to manage and maintain our Unisys mainframe databases efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and administer DMSII databases with optimal performance, space utilization, and availability on Unisys mainframes.

  • Monitor database performance, ensuring timely resolution of any issues that may arise.

  • Manage sets, subsets, and indexes to guarantee efficient data access and maintain data integrity.

  • Handle database backups, journals, and roll-forward recovery procedures to ensure business continuity.

  • Schedule database reorganizations as required, minimizing downtime and optimizing system performance.

  • Collaborate with application and system teams to troubleshoot performance or access issues, providing effective solutions.

  • Participate in disaster recovery testing and ensure compliance with backup policies, maintaining data security.

  • Implement and maintain security, audit trails, and user access controls to protect sensitive information.

  • Document DBA processes, configuration, and recovery procedures for future reference.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong hands-on experience with Unisys DMSII database administration.

  • Knowledge of DMUTILITY, DMSUPPORT, and database reorganization tools.

  • Understanding of journaling, quiet point backups, and roll-forward recovery.

  • Experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting database issues.

  • Familiarity with COBOL, ALGOL, or other Unisys mainframe application integration.

  • Knowledge of batch jobs, JCL equivalents, and operational support tasks.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

  • 3–5 years of proven experience as a DMSII DBA or Unisys Mainframe DBA.

  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
