Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Model Validation Specialist to oversee the validation and testing of quantitative models used across the organization. This role is crucial in ensuring the accuracy, robustness, and regulatory compliance of models supporting risk management, capital assessment, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have a strong quantitative background, experience with model validation frameworks, and knowledge of regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct independent validation of risk models, including credit risk, market risk, operational risk, and stress-testing models.
  • Evaluate model assumptions, data inputs, methodologies, and outputs to assess model performance and accuracy.
  • Perform sensitivity analysis, back-testing, and other quantitative testing techniques to evaluate model reliability.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Develop comprehensive validation reports documenting validation results, model limitations, and recommendations for improvements.
  • Ensure all model documentation aligns with regulatory standards and internal governance policies.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders, including model developers, senior management, and regulatory bodies.

Compliance with Regulatory Requirements:

  • Ensure models comply with regulatory guidelines, including Basel II/III, IFRS 9, CCAR, CECL, and other relevant frameworks.
  • Stay current with changes in regulatory requirements, updating validation practices as needed to maintain compliance.

Risk Assessment and Governance:

  • Identify model risks and evaluate the adequacy of existing controls to mitigate those risks.
  • Collaborate with model owners and risk management teams to develop and implement strategies for addressing identified model risks.
  • Support model governance processes, including periodic reviews and annual model inventory updates.

Continuous Improvement and Best Practices:

  • Identify areas for improvement in model validation practices and suggest process enhancements.
  • Contribute to the development of model validation frameworks, templates, and tools to standardize and streamline validation processes.

Requirements:

  • Master's or Ph.D. in a quantitative field such as mathematics, statistics, economics, finance, or engineering.
  • 3-5 years of experience in model validation, risk management, or quantitative modeling, preferably within the banking or financial services industry.
  • Proficiency in statistical and programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SAS, MATLAB), strong Excel skills, and experience with model validation software/tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of risk modeling techniques, including knowledge of probability, stochastic processes, and econometrics. Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as Basel III, IFRS 9, and CECL.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and attention to detail.
