Job Title: Senior CBM Well Planning Specialist

Lead the design, planning, and execution support of Coalbed Methane wells to ensure technical integrity, cost-efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and lead well planning activities for CBM wells, including location selection and geological data analysis.
  • Develop detailed well designs (casing, cementing, well trajectory, mud program) aligned with reservoir and geo-mechanical models.
  • Prepare and manage risk registers, contingency plans, and Basis of Design documents.
  • Design fit-for-purpose completions for CBM production, such as cavitation, open-hole, or fracked completions.

Engineering & Cost Control:

  • Generate drilling and completion Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) documents and monitor actual vs budget expenses.
  • Develop Scope of Work and technical specifications for Drilling & Well Completion equipment in line with engineering standards and operational requirements.
  • Collaborate with procurement and service vendors to select equipment and materials.
  • Evaluate and apply new CBM-relevant technologies, such as slim-hole, underbalanced drilling, or horizontal CBM.
  • Monitor contractor performance and ensure compliance with safety, contractual, procedural, and regulatory requirements.

Operational Support:

  • Provide real-time technical support to the execution team during drilling, casing, cementing, and completions operations.
  • Conduct post-well reviews and implement lessons learned for continuous improvement.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure all well designs and activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Prepare and submit necessary documentation for permits and approvals.

Team Management & Leadership:

  • Lead a team of well engineers and mentor junior staff members.
  • Manage interfaces with consultants, contractors, and service providers for well engineering deliverables.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering or related field.
  • Over 10 years of upstream oil and gas experience, with at least 3+ years in CBM operations.
  • Proven experience in well design and engineering for low-pressure, unconventional gas wells.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in well design software (Landmark, WellPlan, Compass, StressCheck, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of CBM reservoir behavior and gas production mechanisms.
  • Excellent project management and communication skills.
