Database Systems Specialist

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure efficient installation, configuration, and administration of database systems.
  • Monitor system performance, space utilization, and availability on mainframes.
  • Manage data sets, subsets, and indexes to optimize data access.
  • Coordinate backups, journals, and roll-forward recovery procedures.
  • Support schema changes and perform database reorganizations as required.
  • Collaborate in capacity planning to ensure data integrity across environments.
  • Assist in troubleshooting performance or access issues with application and system teams.
  • Participate in disaster recovery testing and ensure compliance with backup policies.
  • Implement and maintain security, audit trails, and user access controls.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in Unisys DMSII database administration.
  • Knowledge of DMUTILITY, DMSUPPORT, and database reorganization tools.
  • Understanding of journaling, quiet point backups, and roll-forward recovery.
  • Hands-on experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting database issues.
  • Familiarity with COBOL, ALGOL, or other mainframe application integration.
  • Knowledge of batch jobs, JCL equivalents, and operational support tasks.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
