About the Role

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will work on large-scale distributed systems, streaming data pipelines, API design, and advanced algorithms that power Splunk products. You will collaborate with designers, product managers, and quality engineers in a fast-paced environment to drive technical designs and implement backend systems.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with product owners and designers to iterate on system design and implementation.
  • IDentify architecture overlaps across multiple areas and navigate dependencies.
  • Deliver complex problems independently and gain cross-functional alignment.
  • Provide technical leadership within your area.
  • Mentor senior engineers and technical leaders.
  • Understand business direction and evangelize innovative ideas.

Requirements

  • Several years of experience building large-scale backend systems.
  • Experience driving technical designs for backend systems with architects and peer engineers.
  • Proficiency in Java 8+ and/or Go, familiar with development environments.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes, RPC frameworks, cloud native development on AWS/GCP.
  • Leadership and mentoring skills, ability to work with various skill levels.
  • Experience with DevOps practices and comfort operating own systems.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and solve problems through uncertainty.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • BS EE or CS degree, or equivalent training or work experience.
  • 12+ years related experience (or Masters and 8+ years related experience or PhD and 5+ years experience).
