Job Overview

A key role exists for a skilled data management professional to oversee the administration of IBM Db2 and other IBM data management systems. This includes ensuring database performance and reliability by optimizing database design, data models, queries, and indexes.

• Responsibilities
• Oversight and support of IBM Db2 and other IBM data management systems.
• Ensuring database performance and reliability through optimization of database design, data models, queries, and indexes.
• Installation, configuration, and patching of IBM data management tools and databases.
• Database health monitoring and implementation of proactive solutions for backup, disaster recovery, and high availability.
• Performance Optimization
• Tuning of database performance using IBM tools and technologies focusing on response time, query execution time, and overall system throughput.
• Identification and resolution of database performance bottlenecks through indexing, query optimization, and partitioning strategies.
• Regular assessments of system load and usage trends with improvements implemented accordingly.
• Data Modeling and Management
• Collaboration with business and data teams to design and implement logical and physical data models meeting business requirements.
• Maintenance of data integrity and consistency across all systems through proper data governance and data quality management practices.
• Implementation and maintenance of data transformation, integration, and ETL processes using IBM tools such as InfoSphere DataStage.
• Backup and Disaster Recovery
• Design and management of backup strategies for IBM data systems ensuring business continuity.
• Configuration and validation of disaster recovery and business continuity processes minimizing the risk of data loss.
• Regular testing of recovery procedures ensuring quick and efficient restoration of services.
• Security and Compliance
• Implementation of security best practices within IBM databases including access control, user permissions, encryption, and audit logging.
• Compliance with industry-specific data security and privacy regulations such as GDPR and HIPAA.
• Data masking and anonymization as part of sensitive data management processes.
• Automation and Scripting
• Development and maintenance of scripts for automating routine database management tasks using Shell, Python, PowerShell, or IBM-specific tools.
• Integration of automation solutions for backup, monitoring, patching, and reporting tasks improving operational efficiency.
• Troubleshooting and Support
• Technical support for issues related to IBM Data Management systems including performance issues, outages, and system upgrades.
• Troubleshooting of complex database issues related to data access, integrity, and application compatibility.
• Assistance to development teams resolving SQL performance and database-related issues.
• Documentation and Reporting
• Maintenance of detailed documentation for database configurations, procedures, and IBM Data Management systems.
• Generation of periodic reports on database performance, health, and security compliance.
• Creation and maintenance of operational guides for end-users, developers, and other stakeholders.
• Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing
• Cross-functional collaboration with development, data analytics, and operations teams ensuring smooth integration and data flow across platforms.
• Mentorship and training of junior database administrators and team members on best practices for IBM data management.

• Required Skills and Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in IBM Data Management including IBM Db2, InfoSphere, Netezza, or similar IBM data technologies.
• Strong understanding of database management concepts including backup/recovery, performance tuning, and high availability.
• Proficiency in SQL for querying, scripting, and troubleshooting.
• Experience in data integration and ETL processes using IBM tools such as InfoSphere DataStage.
• Familiarity with data governance, data security, and compliance standards in database management.
• Experience in Linux/Unix and Windows environments for administering databases.
