Lead Mortgage Specialist

Mphasis is seeking a highly skilled Lead Mortgage Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mortgage underwriting, with a minimum of 2+ years of experience in conventional loan underwriting.

The Lead Mortgage Specialist's primary responsibilities will include:

  • Performing complete and in-depth reviews of mortgage loan files, including income, assets, credit, and collateral
  • Utilizing client's loan operating system to ensure accurate data entry
  • Underwriting loans in accordance with client guidelines, utilizing automated underwriting systems or manual guidelines
  • Evaluating and ensuring overall loan documents are accurate, complete, and compliant
  • Identifying and clearing red flags or alerts
  • Issuing loan decisions and conditions accordingly
  • Reviewing and approving conditions for compliance and completion of loan files
  • Providing excellent customer service to internal and external clients
  • Maintaining current knowledge of client and investor requirements
  • Resolving pre- and post-closing issues related to underwriting
  • Assisting Processors/Loan Officers in understanding underwriting decisions and conditions

Key Requirements:

  • A strong knowledge of income calculations, tax returns, reading credit reports, and identifying red flags
  • Basic knowledge of appraisal and ability to recognize red flags and ineligible properties
  • A thorough working knowledge of GSE underwriting guidelines and automated underwriting engines (DU/LP)
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills
  • Detailed-oriented with strong time management skills
  • An ability to work in a flexible and production-oriented environment
  • A willingness and ability to work as part of a team
  • A strong capability to work in multiple systems - paperless environment
  • A willingness to work in a strict security environment
  • NMLS-MLO Licensure preferred
