Mathematics Specialist - Remote Position

">Job Overview

This role requires individuals with strong analytical and English comprehension skills to work on projects that involve fine-tuning large language models.

  • The ideal candidate should have a solid foundation in mathematics, including knowledge of mathematical concepts and their applications.
  • You should be able to break down complex mathematical problems into simple, clear explanations and work efficiently to solve them.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and solve challenging math problems to probe the limitations of large language models, focusing on areas where models commonly struggle such as abstraction, multi-step reasoning, and symbolic manipulation.
  • Develop high-quality, step-by-step solutions with clear and rigorous reasoning, suitable for use in evaluating the performance of large language models.
  • Collaborate with LLM researchers to align problem types with evaluation goals, ensuring that the developed problems are relevant and effective in assessing the capabilities of large language models.
  • Contribute to defining new evaluation benchmarks based on Mathematics curricula spanning early undergraduate to PhD-level topics, providing a comprehensive framework for evaluating the performance of large language models.
Requirements
  • Qualification: A strong background in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field is required. Strong research and analytical skills, along with the ability to provide constructive feedback and detailed annotations, are also essential.
  • Creative Thinking: Creative and lateral thinking abilities are necessary to design and solve complex math problems, while excellent structured communication and collaboration skills are required to work effectively in a remote setting.
  • Independence: Self-motivated individuals who can work independently in a remote setting are preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to analyze and solve complex math problems with a structured and logical approach.
  • Ability to explain math concepts clearly using simple language, visuals, and examples.
