Fabric Merchandising Professional

The role of a Fabric Merchandiser is pivotal in the apparel and textile industry, encompassing the entire process of creating new fabrics from concept to production. This encompasses collaborating with designers to translate creative visions into viable fabrics, sourcing diverse materials based on design specifications and market trends, and building relationships with suppliers.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with designers to understand creative direction and develop suitable fabric concepts
  • Source a wide array of fabrics and raw materials according to design requirements, market trends, and quality standards
  • Maintain strong relationships with global suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery and cost-effectiveness
  • Oversee the sampling process, including developing sample fabrics, color samples, and approving final prototypes
  • Analyze costs and negotiate with suppliers to secure competitive pricing while meeting target margins
  • Conduct quality control checks on incoming fabrics and samples to ensure they meet specified standards for durability, colorfastness, and other performance metrics
  • Create and manage development timelines to ensure all product milestones and delivery dates are met
  • Stay informed about the latest textile innovations, sustainable materials, and market trends to forecast future fabric needs and drive product innovation
  • Act as a liaison between internal departments and external partners, suppliers, and manufacturers to ensure smooth workflow operations
