Job Overview

We are seeking an accomplished professional to join our team as a Senior Associate in Indirect Tax Litigation. This role involves handling tax matters, preparing submissions and replies to notices, appeals etc., meeting with tax authorities, and representing clients in various judicial forums.

  • Key responsibilities include handling tax matters, preparing submissions and replies to notices, appeals etc., meeting the tax authorities, representation during appeals along with seniors etc.
  • Assisting clients in responding to departmental inquiries, investigations and audits.
  • Preparing responses to Show cause notice/audit replies.
  • Meeting with tax officers for hearings as required.
  • Preparing tax appeals to be filed at the Joint Commissioner (Appeals)
  • Preparing tax appeals to be filed at the Court (i.e. Tribunal, High Court / Supreme Court)
  • Assisting seniors in representing clients before various judicial forums.
  • Conducting comprehensive research on various topics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Client Service Delivery:
    • Identifying and discussing technical issues with clients while being mindful of firm risks.
    • Executing work on a multiple client base. Assumes near independent responsibility for smaller clients.
    • Developing relationships with middle management levels.
  • Developing Commercial Acumen:
    • Staying up-to-date on firm-wide and competitor activities, as well as general business trends.
    • Applying this knowledge to deliver solutions to clients and adding value to their experience.
  • Networking & Opportunity Identification:
    • Identifying new opportunities for existing clients and communicating them to senior management.
    • Networking internally within the peer group and other levels in the organization to gain understanding of issues that may impact clients.
  • Developing Strong Knowledge Base:
    • Staying current with the latest developments in tax and other laws.
    • Contributing to the knowledge management activities of the organization.

Requirements:

  • Law graduate from a reputable law school with a strong academic record.
  • 1-3 years of post-qualification experience in Indirect Tax would be preferred i.e. GST, Customs, etc.
