Job Description

Job Title: Senior Officer Analysis

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Officer Analysis to join our team at TENNECO. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting advanced finite element analysis (FEA) and durability simulations for piston assemblies and adjacent components.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Conduct independent FEA and durability simulations for piston assemblies and adjacent components.
  • Recommend improvements for piston design, including geometry, pin bore, and skirt profiles.
  • Participate in the development team and communicate simulation results to application engineering, design, and test bench teams.
  • Simulate piston solidification for aluminum gravity die casting to assess die cooling parameters, solidification time, and porosity risk.
  • Determine loads and boundary conditions based on customer requirements and product functional specifications.
  • Extract relevant load cases from pressure curves provided by customers.
  • Create FEA models based on CAD designs, including mesh generation, set and surface definitions, contact definitions, loads, and boundary conditions.
  • Define profiles for pin bore, skirt, and lands.
  • Morph FE meshes for independent geometry modification.
  • Calculate temperature fields and heat flows for piston assemblies and adjacent components.
  • Calculate stresses and deformations for piston assemblies under different load cases.
  • Calculate durability of piston assemblies based on stresses and temperatures.
  • Improve piston assemblies through profile optimization and minor geometry modifications.
  • Generate simulation reports with detailed investigations of relevant locations.
  • Communicate with application engineering and foundry teams to obtain data and check plausibility.
  • Simulate piston solidification, including solidification time and porosity.
  • Define improvement measures, such as cooling parameter variations, insulation areas, ingate, and riser modifications.
  • Cooperate with design teams to improve die geometry.
  • Generate simulation reports for piston solidification, including proposals for improvement.
  • Investigate production problems, such as porosities, and adapt simulation models to match these problems as a basis for solutions.
  • Presentation of simulation reports to application engineering, foundry engineers, and customers.
  • Participate in customer meetings as required.
  • Compare simulation results with engine test results.
  • Carry out assigned project simulations in compliance with specified target deadlines.
  • Carry out priority planning for several project tasks assigned in parallel, considering specified deadlines.
  • Further develop simulation methodology to increase process speed and accuracy of simulation results.

  • Piston casting analysis software (e.g., Magma).
  • FEA software (e.g., Abaqus).
  • Durability software (e.g., Femfat).
  • Pre- and post-processors (e.g., Hypermesh, SimLab, Abaqus/Viewer).
  • Macro programming (e.g., Python).
  • PLM systems (e.g., Windchill).
  • Queueing systems for HPC clusters (e.g., LSF).
  • MS-Office applications.
  • Windows operating systems.

Working Documents, Regulations, and Information:

  • Workplace safety.
  • Directive: Workplace Ordinance.
  • Plans, lists, statistics, drawings, etc.
  • Knowledge of environmental requirements.
  • Knowledge of accident prevention regulations.
  • DIN standards.

Qualifications Required:

  • Master of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering or comparable).
  • Advanced fundamentals of thermodynamics, strength, and structural mechanics, engine dynamics, finite element analysis, numerical solution methods.
  • Advanced knowledge of combustion engines and simulation.
  • Business fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Specific knowledge of Hypermesh, Abaqus, Femfat, and piston casting analysis software.

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years as Analysis Engineer.
  • Preferably in the automotive industry.
  • Working experience with global automotive OEM or tier 1 supplier.
