Your Role

As a Full Stack Developer - Scalable System Architect at Virtual Internships, you'll be part of a global team of ambitious talents who champion quality through excellent coding practices and continuous learning. You'll take full ownership of your work from inception to production, collaborating effectively across teams, integrating testing naturally into your workflow to ensure reliability, and participating actively in design and code reviews.

You'll thrive in a fast-paced environment, setting and achieving ambitious milestones while communicating clearly with stakeholders. Your experience will enable you to design and build scalable systems to be used by millions of students and companies, own large components, systems, or projects, coordinating and communicating with teams and leads across the organization.

You'll architect backend solutions to high-complexity problems with high-availability and high-reliability in mind, instigate design discussions, and facilitate engineering-wide learning. As the primary driver of resolving production issues, you'll hold post-mortems and own long-term fixes. Our small and effective team ensures you'll have a say in what to build and then own it.

We're paranoid about performance, so you'll investigate performance/scalability bottlenecks and existing queries, write new queries with performance optimization in mind, identify libraries and technologies that solve our problems, and/or are worth experimentation.

Who We're Looking For

We're seeking talented individuals who champion quality through their own coding practices, actively hone their craft to be better programmers, seek to learn more about the organization, business, and problem domain, and feel better when shipping a test, guaranteeing their software, and being the first to know if something is amiss.

Successful candidates will enjoy participating in and providing feedback on design and code reviews, socializing and testing designs for components/modules before cutting code, being accountable (owning work from inception to production), collaborative (working with other engineers), able to work independently (managing time efficiently), manage their workload, and communicate frequently and honestly to stakeholders and themselves about the work they commit to.

With 2+ years of experience in software development, proficiency in multiple languages, understanding of databases, experience building web applications, knowledge of caching techniques, REST paradigm, service-oriented architecture, distributed systems, clear understanding of data structures and algorithms, and some knowledge of and experience with how systems work at scale, you'll excel in this role.

Salary and Benefits

As a Full Stack Developer - Scalable System Architect at Virtual Internships, you can expect an estimated salary of $120,000 per year.
