Software Systems Engineer

This role is for a skilled Software Systems Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in building and contributing to scalability and monitoring of applications.

The key responsibilities of this position include:

  1. Building software solutions and systems to manage platform infrastructure and applications.
  2. Partnering with development teams to improve services through rigorous testing and release procedures.
  3. Participating in system design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning.
  4. Improving reliability, quality, and time-to-market of our suite of software solutions.
  5. Building monitoring that alerts on symptoms rather than on outages.
  6. Running the production environment by monitoring availability and taking a holistic view of system health.
  7. Measuring and optimizing system performance, with an eye toward pushing our capabilities forward, getting ahead of customer needs, and innovating to continually improve.
  8. Providing primary operational support and engineering for multiple large, distributed software applications.
  9. Gathering and analyzing metrics from both operating systems and applications to assist in performance tuning and fault finding.
  10. Creating sustainable systems and services through automation and uplifts.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in building and contributing to scalability and monitoring of applications.
  • Proficiency in Python.
  • Good knowledge of SRE concepts, especially towards application performance monitoring and building alerts and dashboards catering to SLIs and SLOs.
  • Experience in scripting in PowerShell, Bash.
  • Proficiency with monitoring tools like Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk, Nobl9.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.
  • Ability to work in an agile development environment where developers and testing personnel work closely together to ensure requirements are met or exceeded.
  • Ability to demonstrate interpersonal and team-building skills working with technical and non-technical individuals.
