Job Summary">

The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for supporting teaching, research, and practical training in life sciences, forensic science, agriculture, and computer applications.

As a key member of our laboratory team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratories. Your expertise will be instrumental in maintaining equipment, assisting faculty and students during experiments, and implementing safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, instruments, and materials for practical classes and research activities.
  • Assist faculty and students with laboratory experiments, demonstrations, and projects, providing guidance on techniques and procedures.
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemicals, biological samples, reagents, and other materials, adhering to institutional and regulatory guidelines.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as calibrating and troubleshooting laboratory instruments and software applications.
  • Record inventory levels, experiment results, and laboratory usage, providing accurate data for analysis and decision-making.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in a relevant discipline (Life Sciences, Forensic Science, Agriculture, or Computer Applications) from a recognized institution.
  • Prior experience in laboratory work, technical assistance, or research support is an asset.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures, equipment handling, and maintenance is essential.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with relevant software are required, particularly for Computer Applications labs.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills are necessary for effective collaboration and time management.
Preferred Skills:
  • Life Sciences: Familiarity with microbiological, environmental, or zoological lab techniques.
  • Forensic Science: Knowledge of forensic sample handling, analytical instruments, and evidence management.
  • Agriculture: Exposure to soil testing, crop/plant analysis, and agricultural lab tools.
  • Computer Applications: Experience with software installations, programming tools, and troubleshooting in computer labs.
