Senior Not-For-Profit Auditor

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Auditor with a strong background in not-for-profit audits to lead our assurance team. The ideal candidate has 3–6 years of progressive experience in public accounting, with a focus on serving charitable organizations, foundations, and other non-profit entities in Canada.

  • The successful candidate will be responsible for leading audit engagements, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring the highest quality standards in financial reporting and client service.
About the Role

The role involves:

  • Leading audit engagements for not-for-profit clients in accordance with Canadian Auditing Standards (CAS) and Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations (ASNPO)
  • Developing detailed audit plans and executing fieldwork efficiently and effectively
  • Supervising, training, and mentoring junior staff; reviewing their work and providing feedback
  • Identifying, analyzing, and communicating accounting and auditing issues to clients and partners
  • Ensuring timely completion of audit engagements within set parameters
  • Preparing and reviewing financial statements and related disclosures
  • Liaising directly with client stakeholders, including finance teams and boards of directors
  • Maintaining current knowledge of developments in accounting and assurance standards applicable to the not-for-profit sector
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of audit methodologies and internal processes
Key ResponsibilitiesAudit Engagement Leadership
  • Lead audit teams to deliver high-quality results that meet or exceed client expectations
  • Develop and implement effective audit strategies to ensure compliance with relevant standards
Staff Development and Training
  • Mentor junior staff members to enhance their skills and knowledge
  • Provide regular feedback and coaching to support staff growth and development
Communication and Liaison
  • Communicate complex accounting and auditing issues to clients and partners in a clear and concise manner
  • Liaise with client stakeholders to ensure seamless collaboration and project delivery
Qualifications and Skills

To be considered for this role, you should possess:

  • 3–6 years of experience in public practice, with a strong focus on not-for-profit clients
  • In-depth understanding of ASNPO and CAS
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong project management and organizational abilities
  • Proficiency in Caseware, TaxPrep, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
