Overview

We are seeking a seasoned AI leader to drive innovation and excellence in machine learning engineering at Microsoft. As a Principal Machine Learning Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our LLM modeling capabilities.

In this dynamic role, you will collaborate with world-class researchers and data scientists to design, develop, and implement cutting-edge AI products. Your work will directly contribute to enhancing Azure ML's state-of-the-art modeling capabilities, enabling customers to harness the power of GenAI.

You will be responsible for managing GenAI and LLM-related projects, working closely with cross-functional teams to drive customer-inspired innovations. This includes collaborating with software engineers, product managers, and data scientists to deliver high-impact projects with global reach.

Qualifications

  • Depth in Data Science, Generative AI, and Engineering
  • A strong background in machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing
  • Proficiency in Python and relevant ML libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch)
  • Experience with transformer-based models (e.g., BERT, GPT, T5, Llama)
  • Solid understanding of statistics, linear algebra, and probability theory
  • Experience working with structured and unstructured datasets
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS) and distributed computing
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Desired but not required: 2+ years of experience managing a technical team as a people manager; 15+ years Overall experience is a must

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with researchers and data scientists to design sophisticated machine learning models
  • Implement and fine-tune neural network architectures, including transformer-based models
  • Optimize model performance, scalability, and efficiency
  • Conduct experiments to evaluate model performance, robustness, and generalization
  • Explore novel techniques and approaches to enhance model capabilities
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in NLP, deep learning, and AI research
  • Work with large-scale datasets, preprocess them, and create appropriate data representations
  • Select relevant features and ensure data quality for training and evaluation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including researchers, software engineers, and product managers
  • Communicate technical findings and insights effectively
  • Deploy trained models in production environments
  • Monitor model performance, troubleshoot issues, and iterate on improvements
  • As a tech lead, manage applied science projects, mentor team members, and deliver results as a team
