Senior Database Administrator Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Database Administrator to join our team. This individual will play a key role in designing scalable data architectures, ensuring high availability and supporting development teams with optimised queries and resilient data pipelines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Database Administration & Operations:
    • Maintain, monitor and tune production and staging MSSQL and PostgreSQL databases
    • Manage high availability, backups, restores, replication and disaster recovery strategies
    • Ensure uptime and performance SLAs are met across cloud and hybrid environments
  • AWS Cloud Expertise:
    • Administer RDS, Aurora and EC2-hosted database instances
    • Monitor database performance using CloudWatch, Performance Insights and third-party tools
  • Data Architecture & Design:
    • Work with engineering teams to model new schemas, optimize indexes and review queries
    • Implement and enforce best practices in database normalization, partitioning and data lifecycle management
  • Security & Compliance:
    • Ensure data encryption, access controls and audit logging are in place and compliant with company policies
    • Support GDPR/SOC 2/ISO 27001 initiatives with appropriate database controls and evidence collection
  • Collaboration & Mentoring:
    • Provide database guidance to developers and DevOps teams during code reviews and deployments
    • Share knowledge, mentor junior DBAs and improve documentation and internal tooling
