Job Description:

As a Senior Database Administrator, you will be responsible for overseeing the management and administration of technology within your area of specialization. You will collaborate with team members to ensure that technology effectively supports enterprise systems, share knowledge, and provide mentoring to less experienced IT associates.

  • Analyze existing database systems and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Work closely with the IT Manager to establish database security structures and ensure Sox compliance.
  • Manage and maintain Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) clusters for optimal performance and high availability.
  • Administer and monitor Apache Kafka clusters, including topic management, performance tuning, and security configurations.
  • Perform database administration for Oracle, MySQL, and PostgreSQL systems, including backup, recovery, and performance optimization.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts using Shell scripting and Ansible for deployment, monitoring, and configuration management.
  • Collaborate with data engineers and developers to optimize data pipelines and ensure data integrity across platforms.
  • Implement and maintain security best practices across all data platforms.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across the data stack in a timely manner.
  • Take ownership of the environment, fix ongoing issues, and act as an individual contributor.
  • Create and maintain database access systems, including tables, indexes, views, stored procedures, and triggers.
  • Administer database replication between servers, across Local Area Network and Wide Area Network.
  • Tune and optimize database objects for improved performance.
  • Provide 24x7 on-call support and be available to address critical issues.
  • Contribute technical input to solution development plans and concept documents.
  • Demonstrate understanding of business impacts of issues and how they relate to IT owned solutions.
  • Communicate effectively in written and verbal form in a cross-functional setting with business partners.
  • Share knowledge and actively mentor less experienced IT Administrators.
  • Perform and plan major version upgrades to ensure smooth transitions.
  • Design and implement effective monitoring of enterprise systems.
  • Utilize experience and deep knowledge to tune systems for optimal performance.
  • Identify risks and communicate them proactively to mitigate potential issues.
  • Document technical designs and procedures for the team library.
  • Plan and manage technical projects involving other teams.
  • Communicate technology effectively to non-technical associates and management.
  • Recognize and understand technology impacts within the business.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in database management systems such as Oracle, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with Big Data technologies like Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) and Apache Kafka.
