Firmware Architecture and Development for Next-Gen IoT Health Devices

As a senior firmware engineer at hoomanely, you will lead the development of firmware architecture and software for next-generation Internet of Things (IoT) health devices built on various platforms. Your expertise in building and optimizing custom Yocto Linux distributions and FreeRTOS deployments will enable seamless integration of AI accelerators, DSPs, and multimodal sensors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop secure device drivers and board support packages (BSPs) for imaging, high-resolution cameras, precision load cells, audio digital signal processors (DSPs), and communication protocols.
  • Drive sensor fusion and embedded machine learning pipelines for classification, anomaly detection, and predictive alerts.
  • Ensure firmware supports privacy-first, high-throughput data handling with over-the-air (OTA) updates, local compute, and compliance baked in.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and product teams to ship scalable, modular systems with robust diagnostics.
  • Mentor junior engineers and represent firmware at partner and vendor discussions.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 6-8 years of experience building firmware for complex products end-to-end, including startup or consumer device exposure.
  • Strong background in ARM Cortex-M/A, STM32, Texas Instruments, Broadcom multi-core, ESP32, and familiarity with RISC-V.
  • Depth in Yocto Linux and FreeRTOS, BSP/kernel/driver development for imaging, machine learning, DSP, and sensor stacks.
  • Experience with AI-enabled System-on-Chips (SoCs), DSPs, and embedded machine learning.
  • Expertise in device drivers (cameras, load cells, DSPs, Bluetooth Low Energy/LoRa) and secure IoT integrations.
  • Problem-solver, detail-driven, with cross-disciplinary troubleshooting ability.
  • Clear communicator with solid documentation habits.
Nice to Have:
  • Experience in IoT, consumer electronics, or pet/health devices.
  • Hands-on experience with OTA frameworks, encryption standards, and secure edge/cloud data flows.
  • Team player with mentoring track record in fast-moving product teams.
