Job Title: Backend Software Engineer for Personal Finance App

About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced backend software engineer to join our team. As a senior backend engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing high-quality software solutions that meet the needs of our users.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in building Node.js backends with Postgres and experience with secure webhooks, third-party APIs, and idempotency concepts.

You will work closely with the platform engineer to ensure security, performance, and cost-effectiveness in our systems.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop REST APIs from OpenAPI specs
  • Write SQS workers for ingestion and insights
  • Implement efficient queries, cursor pagination, and Redis caching for hot reads
  • Enforce input validation, structured logs, and distributed tracing
  • Collaborate with the platform engineer on security, performance, and cost optimization

Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience building Node.js backends with Postgres and a queue (SQS/Rabbit/etc.)
  • Strong grasp of idempotency, retries/backoff, cursor pagination, error design, and API performance
  • Experience with Docker, GitHub Actions, and observability basics (logs/metrics/traces)

Nice to Have:
  • Plaid SDK experience; LLM API usage (Gemini/OpenAI); SMS flows (SNS/Twilio)
  • Exposure to Java/Spring or Go (we may introduce JVM/Go for specific future services)
