Job Title: Music Educator

About a special school in Chennai founded to provide pre-vocational and vocational training programmes for children with Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, and Down Syndrome.

We are looking for a skilled Music Teacher who can support diverse learners and foster inclusive education. Ideally, you have expertise in designing music lessons for students with varying abilities, including autism, physical disabilities, learning difficulties, or emotional/behavioural challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and Deliver Lessons: Design music lessons that accommodate different learning styles and abilities, utilising assistive technologies and visual aids as needed.
  • Use Adaptive Techniques: Utilise instruments, alternative communication methods, and other tools to facilitate student participation.
  • Encourage Expression and Communication: Promote music as a means of self-expression, communication, and emotional regulation.
  • Therapeutic Integration: Collaborate with occupational therapists and speech therapists to integrate therapeutic goals into musical activities.
  • Assessment and Reporting: Assess student progress using tailored benchmarks and maintain accurate records.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, structured, and encouraging classroom environment, managing behaviour sensitively in line with the school's policies.
  • Enrichment and Events: Organise performances, music therapy sessions, and school-wide musical events to showcase students' abilities.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Carnatic/Hindustani Music or a related field
  • Teaching qualification or experience in special education (Preferred)
  • Experience working with children with special educational needs (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies and adaptive music education
  • Ability to play an instrument and facilitate group music singing
  • Knowledge of Tamil language is mandatory
  • Training in music therapy or knowledge of therapeutic music practices
  • Experience with communication aids
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Patience, creativity, and a positive attitude
