Methode Electronics is seeking a Power Products Product Development Engineer (PDE) to work on HV Battery Disconnect Units (BDU), HV Power Distribution Units (PDU), HV Junction Boxes (HVJB), and Busbars for use inside both the HV battery packs as well as other power components outside the battery pack. In this role, you will be responsible to engineer busbar and BDU/PDU solutions from the concept pre-development phase through the product development and launch phase. You will manage multiple projects and offer guidance & evaluation assistance enabling team members to provide the highest level of product quality. Working with off-site Methode production facilities and sales, you will collaborate with engineering teams in various Methode locations.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Design and manufacture components for power electronics
  • Design of plastic and metallic subcomponents
  • Define, model, and validate manufacturability of power electronic systems and components
  • Evaluate molding or assembly process for power systems (insert molding, over molding, etc.)
  • Develop power system components and systems according to customer specification
  • Establish reliable communication channels with customers and provide technical explanation and answers regarding Methode’s power products and technologies
  • Identify possible applications that resolve customer issues which make use of Methode’s power electronics technologies
  • Proactively discuss opportunities and ideas with customers in order to understand their needs
  • Develop and deliver all documentation via PLM to support design progression
  • Perform the engineering tasks required to design and develop technical solutions for power products


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • At least 6 to 10 years of industry experience at an Automotive OEM or Tier 1 with experience in plastic injection molding and metal stamping
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills and general electromechanical engineering analysis
  • Basic knowledge of electrification market (HEV, PHEV, and BEV), and application in the auto industry
  • Basic knowledge of functional safety (ISO 26262)
  • Excellent communication skills including ability to communicate complex designs clearly and effectively to other functional groups
  • Hands-on experience with 3D CAD design tools; CREO experience a plus
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage multiple projects
  • Proven ability to overcome obstacles and get results
  • Ability to quickly adapt to a changing industry, and quickly learn and apply new technologies
