JOB PURPOSE
An economist will join in-house Economic Research team and will report directly to Chief Economist. The successful candidate will support the team lead in tracking and providing forward looking insights on the state of the Indian economy to the senior management and also through generation of reports for publication. She/He will also be responsible in handling independent projects and contribute to team’s work in developing forward-looking analytical economic frameworks with an emphasis on business cycle/trends and the resulting implications for credit quality.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
High Quality Research
- Assess and analyze the state of the Indian economy to provide insights and strategic advice to the senior management. Monitor, analyze, and evaluate general and regional economic trends and financial and economic developments that directly impact the Indian economy.
- Analyze and assess the credit performance and credit quality across the economy to advise on internal risk management and potential business opportunities.
- Develop forward-looking analytical economic frameworks to augment the company's existing process underpinning credit decisions.
- Develop frameworks and tools to expand the database and analytical capabilities to State/regional level economies and select sectors for granular economic and sectoral analysis
- Analyze the impact of government and central bank's policy decisions for the broader economy and relevant area/sector/product.
- Support the execution of well-written and high-quality research reports and updates on relevant economic and financial market data/developments/issues and policy decisions for internal and external distribution. This involves conceiving ideas, directing, planning, and conducting research and analyses on relevant topics.
Data management and insights
- Analyze complex and numerous macro-economic indicators to glean key insights, including distinguishing anomalies from trends and articulating key messages.
- Build the macro-economic database to support the analysis, development of tools and frameworks, and economic database projections.
- Develop and maintain quantitative models for nowcasting, forecasting and simulation to provide logical backing for analysis and insights
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Educational Qualifications
Qualification required: Postgraduate in Economics/Statistics from reputable college.
Work Experience : 5 to 8 years in economic/industry research field within financial industry, research organizations or rating agencies would be preferred.
- Strong econometric and data handling skills are a must, with expertise in at least one statistical/econometric software such as EViews, R, STATA etc
- Strong understanding of the Indian economy, credit cycle and linkages with the global economy and markets
- Strong analytical bent of mind to draw out key insights and provide innovative ideas
- Sound familiarity with India’s macro data (sources, frequency, issues with data) including with CMIE data platform
- Demonstrated track record of taking ownership of assigned tasks
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
