Job Title: Enterprise Mainframe Systems SpecialistPkware is seeking an experienced Enterprise Mainframe Systems Specialist to design, implement and maintain high-performing enterprise-level system software in IBM mainframe environments. This role focuses on system configuration, performance optimization, security, automation, and troubleshooting to ensure high availability and optimal performance.System Installation, Maintenance & Upgrades:Install, upgrade, configure and maintain z/OS and subsystems (JES2, RACF, CICS, DB2, IMS) to ensure seamless transitions and zero downtime.Manage system updates, PTFs, APARs using SMP/E, ensuring stability and compatibility across releases.Performance Tuning & Capacity Planning:Monitor and optimize CPU, memory, and I/O performance to improve overall system efficiency.Tune WLM, Sysplex, and critical components to eliminate bottlenecks and maximize throughput.Conduct capacity planning and recommend hardware upgrades to future-proof the infrastructure.Security & Compliance:Administer RACF and enforce robust security policies to safeguard sensitive data.Ensure compliance with industry standards such as SOX, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, and other regulatory requirements.Apply security patches and mitigate vulnerabilities to prevent cyber threats.Storage & Backup Management:Manage DFSMS, VSAM, HSM, and storage tools to optimize disk and tape storage usage.Oversee backups, disaster recovery, and high-availability solutions to minimize downtime.Develop and implement efficient storage strategies to meet business needs.Incident Management & Troubleshooting:Diagnose and resolve complex system issues, including abends and bottlenecks.Analyze dumps, logs, and traces to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.Collaborate with IBM support and vendors to resolve complex technical issues.Automation & Scripting:Design and develop automation scripts using REXX, JCL, CLIST, and Ansible to streamline processes.Improve monitoring, job scheduling, and efficiency through automated workflows.Eliminate repetitive tasks by developing custom automation solutions.Disaster Recovery & High Availability:Develop and implement comprehensive disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.Maintain parallel sysplex and failover configurations to minimize downtime.Documentation & Knowledge Sharing:Develop and maintain technical documentation and best practices to support knowledge sharing.Mentor junior team members and share expertise to enhance skills and productivity.
