Principal Controls Software Developer

Job Title: Control Software EngineerOverview: As a key member of our development team, you will be responsible for developing and delivering standard controls software for PLC or other real-time controller platforms. This role requires a passion for excellence, the drive to complete tasks within the required timeframe, the ability to work in a team environment, and the technical skill to produce high-quality software.Key Responsibilities:Develop and/or follow project plans, ensuring milestone dates are set and met.Co-develop successive releases of controls software products in coordination with product champions, performing complex design, maintenance, enhancement, testing, implementation, and support.Produce well-structured, easy-to-understand, and well-documented software.Develop software tools for the rapid deployment of controls software products for testing and applications environments.Baseline existing systems, making necessary improvements to stabilize/upgrade existing systems.Complete quality processes through the execution of module, subsystem, and system test procedures, including customer site commissioning when required.Produce all documentation required as part of the development process, including detailed design specifications, test documents, and descriptions of operation.Estimate modules under development, especially own work, and review complex standards specifications and other documentation to determine engineering requirements.Present complex technical findings and developments.Contribute to the development and maintenance of controls software standards.Train regional product champions to efficiently deploy developed software products.Work, Health, Safety & Environment (WHS&E) Responsibilities:Take care of your own health and safety, as well as that of others, by implementing risk control measures to prevent injuries or illnesses.Prevent pollution to the environment.Cooperate with policies, procedures, and instructions, including timely reporting of hazards, incidents, and injuries via the reporting process.Other Responsibilities:Comply with relevant statutory and legal requirements.Commit to and cooperate with quality management systems and processes.Knowledge & Experience:A minimum of 6+ years of PLC programming experience, including current, hands-on experience with material handling/intralogistics systems (conveyor, stacker cranes, or pallet conveying systems).A minimum of 1 year of experience in Siemens TIA coding is required.Must have a working understanding of design, layout, and use of industrial networks, preferably with Profinet, Profibus, and ASi.Experience designing and developing software using a higher-level language, such as C, C++, Visual Basic, or Java, particularly in real-time applications.Experience in automated testing, including scripting, is beneficial.Experience in an agile development environment is beneficial.Experience in HMI/SCADA programming is beneficial (Iconics, Wonderware, RSView, WinCC, or Citect).Bachelor or higher degree in electrical/mechatronics engineering, computer science, or similar discipline.Honors level preferred.
