About the organization:
Mahila Housing Trust (MHT) was founded in 1994 based out of Ahmedabad with the mission of building housing and living environments for poor women and girls. MHT’s programs address basic civic and housing infrastructure needs, including water, sanitation, drainage, solid waste management, roads, electricity/energy, low-income housing and secured land tenure. MHT facilitates access to information along with financial, legal and technical services in housing, water and sanitation, and energy sectors with a focus on improving the quality of lives and livelihoods of poor women and girls.
About the project:
MHT is investigating the phenomenon of Urban Heat Islands to evaluate its impact on vulnerable urban populations. This project leverages AI/ML and spatial analysis tools, combined with ground-level data collected through community action.
Role and Responsibilities:
1. Development of GeoAI Models: Designing, implementing, and optimizing AI algorithms that can analyze and interpret geospatial data, such as satellite imagery and sensor data.
2. Conduct literature review, secondary data analysis, primary data collection and analysis, and report writing.
3. Data Integration: Integrating AI models with GIS platforms to automate spatial data analysis and enhance decision-making processes.
4. Collaboration with Teams: Working closely with GIS specialists, and ground team to develop scalable GeoAI solutions.
5. Continuous Learning: Staying updated with the latest advancements in AI and GIS technologies to innovate and improve existing GeoAI systems.
6. Research papers: writing research papers and representing the organization in various forums and conferences.
Requirements:
Passion for social impact.
At least 2 years of experience in data handling, including data collection, cleaning, processing, analysis, and visualization in climate related data.
Familiarity with data analysis in Python (numpy, scikit-learn, matplotlib, pandas, geopandas) and R (dplyr, ggplot2, Shiny, and machine learning packages), PostGres, SQL
Proficiency with spatial data software (ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.) will be an advantage.
Experience in PyCharm or similar application
Demonstrated advanced data analysis skills.
Exposure to data modelling and machine learning is highly desirable.
Experience working with macro data sets and multiple projects, including Household Surveys, is desirable.
Strong written and communication skills in English and Hindi. Knowledge of Gujarati will be an advantage.
Candidates must understand that working in the social sector requires an ability to bond with a diverse team and patience.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, Data Science, IT or any other field with a significant programming component.
