Position Description

The position is responsible for managing New Product Design & Development and Technical Operations within the plant. The position will be responsible for enhancing technical economy and for driving optimisation of production processes and process improvements continually and industrialisation of new products by successfully running plant trials.

 

Key Performance Areas

•  New product design, development & industrialisation.

•  Adherence to NPD release schedules and new product release plan at plant.

•  Process capability improvements.

•  Quality Rating Score.

•  Reduction in overall process scrap, bladder cost & indirect material cost through process optimisation and improvements.

•  Reduction in defects due to process failures/inefficiencies.

•  Projects (Kaizen & QIPs)


 

Functions and Responsibilities

1)   New Development & Industrialisation

•  Developing mould drawings, manufacturing specifications and tyre engineering standards for new products.

•  Formulation of plans to ensure efficiency in execution of industrialisation of new products.

•  Ensure precision in conversion of master specifications to process specifications.

•  Conduct manufacturing trials based on guidelines / technical specification.

•  Conducting thermo-couple study for cure cycle optimisation.

•  Ensure fine-tuning of specifications / processes based on particular market requirements especially global markets.

•  Ensuring effective implementation of the prescribed manufacturing process jointly with the Production team through providing guidance where required.

 

2)   Problem Solving / Trouble Shooting

•  Ensuring meticulous production and process changes with respect to defect reduction, process improvement, scrap reduction etc.

•  Ensure assertion and escalation of unattended process issues.

•  Ensuring systematic and timely assistance, analysis and review of abnormalities in production processes with cross functional support and discussions.


3)   Technical Economy

•  Ensure continuous review and improvement in analytical and developmental activities.

•  Propose changing of compounds, changing of weights etc. to the Research and Development department to ensure cost reduction in existing products.

•  Engaging in brainstorming discussions with team to ensure that the product and processes shall ensure minimal wastages, maximum outputs at minimal costs.

•  Continually engage in review and improvement of existing processes and resolving process issues.

 

4)   Operational Activities

•  Management and conducting trials for new machines.

•  Ensure meticulous test-checks of tyres returned from market, analyse results of test-checks and provide feedback to PM. Propose changes in products and make suggestions based on analysis of test-checks.

•  Ensure systematic execution of indoor testing for various production processes / products.

•  Review and analyse all statistics pertaining to scrap, process loss and performance.

•  Management of tyre runout & balancing checks and yield improvement activities.

•  Managing all changes pertaining to specifications of processes and products and providing a final sign-off for the same.

 

5)   People Management

•  Manage performance of the team and provide timely feedback.

•  Ensure overall morale of the team is high.

•  Ensure staff is adequately trained, equipped and motivated so that the work can be completed in a safe, timely and cost- effective manner.

• Regularly conduct training sessions for the shop floor operators and supervisors on correct methods of operations and usage of machine and equipment.

 

 

Education Qualification / Experience

Bachelor of Technology or Master of Technology / Science (Polymer Science/Polymer Technology) having more than 5 years of experience in 2/3 wheeler tyre industry. Knowledge of AutoCAD will be an added advantage.
