Job Overview:
As a Palo Alto Engineer, you will be responsible for implementing, configuring, and maintaining Palo Alto Networks security solutions within an organization’s IT infrastructure. This role involves working closely with IT teams to ensure the protection of networks and data, while troubleshooting and resolving security issues in real-time. The position requires proficiency in using Palo Alto products and knowledge of network security protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deployment & Configuration:
Deploy and configure Palo Alto Networks security appliances (e.g., firewalls, next-gen firewalls, VPNs, etc.).
Integrate Palo Alto solutions with existing network infrastructure to provide enhanced security measures.
Customize and optimize Palo Alto products for the specific needs of the organization.
- Monitoring & Management:
Continuously monitor security threats and vulnerabilities using Palo Alto Networks tools.
Provide real-time analysis and response to security alerts and incidents.
Maintain logs and reports for auditing and compliance purposes.
- Security Policy Development:
Develop and implement security policies and configurations in Palo Alto firewalls.
Conduct regular reviews of firewall and network security rules to ensure best practices.
Collaborate with teams to assess risks and implement solutions to mitigate vulnerabilities.
- Troubleshooting & Support:
Provide advanced troubleshooting and technical support for Palo Alto products.
Investigate and resolve security incidents, conducting root-cause analysis.
Troubleshoot network security issues and performance bottlenecks.
- Documentation & Training:
Document configuration settings, operational procedures, and security policies.
Train internal teams on the usage and best practices for Palo Alto products.
Keep up-to-date with the latest Palo Alto features and releases.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Technical Skills:
Strong hands-on experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls (e.g., PA Series).
Expertise in network security concepts such as IPSEC VPN, SSL VPN, NAT, SD-WAN, and application-level security.
Knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, SMTP, etc.) and security mechanisms (IDS/IPS, DLP, etc.).
Experience with Palo Alto Panorama for centralized management is a plus.
Familiarity with cloud security solutions, especially if dealing with Palo Alto Prisma and Cortex.
- Certifications:
Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE) or equivalent certifications.
Other relevant certifications (e.g., CCNP Security, CompTIA Security+, CISSP) are a plus.
- Experience:
Previous experience in network security, firewall administration, or similar roles.
Experience working in a security operations center (SOC) or with other Palo Alto products is advantageous.
- Soft Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work in a team environment, collaborating with IT professionals and management.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and familiarity with cloud security best practices.
Familiarity with automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible) for configuration management.
Experience with network infrastructure design, VPNs, and advanced routing techniques.
