Job Summary:

We are seeking a talented and experienced Senior Design Manager with a strong background in residential and commercial architecture and expertise in AutoCAD . As a Senior Design Manager, you will lead the design process for both residential and commercial projects, managing teams of architects and designers while ensuring that design excellence, technical accuracy, and client expectations are met. Your role will be pivotal in driving the design strategy, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and overseeing the production of high-quality, detailed architectural drawings and documentation. Key Responsibilities:

  • Design Leadership:
  • Lead the design process for residential and commercial projects, from initial concept through to detailed design and construction documentation.
  • Develop creative, innovative, and functional design solutions that meet client requirements, project goals, and budget constraints for both residential and commercial sectors.
  • Ensure designs are aligned with the vision of the client, while adhering to regulatory standards, local codes, and best practices.
  • Project Coordination & Management:
  • Oversee and coordinate the work of internal design teams, including architects, engineers, and other consultants, ensuring that all design elements are integrated seamlessly.
  • Supervise the preparation of architectural drawings and documentation, ensuring they are clear, accurate, and in compliance with project standards.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure projects are progressing on time and within budget, identifying and addressing any issues or risks that arise during the design phase.
  • Team Leadership & Mentoring:
  • Manage and mentor a team of designers and junior architects, providing guidance on design, technical issues, and professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative environment, encouraging innovative ideas while maintaining design integrity and quality.
  • Ensure the team adheres to project schedules and delivers high-quality design outputs.
  • Technical Expertise & AutoCAD Mastery:
  • Utilize AutoCAD to produce high-quality architectural drawings, including floor plans, elevations, sections, and construction details for both residential and commercial projects.
  • Review and oversee the preparation of AutoCAD drawings, ensuring they are accurate, well-documented, and ready for construction.
  • Address any technical challenges and provide design solutions during the production of drawings and during the construction phase.
  • Quality Control & Design Review:
  • Conduct design reviews to ensure that all design documents and drawings meet quality standards and client specifications.
  • Review and approve drawings and specifications to ensure they comply with building codes, regulations, and project requirements.
  • Oversee the implementation of design changes and ensure that updates to drawings are accurately incorporated.
  • Scheduling & Budget Management:
  • Monitor and manage the design schedule, ensuring timely completion of design deliverables and coordination with other project phases.
  • Work closely with project managers to ensure that the design phase stays within budget, identifying potential cost-saving measures or areas for optimization.
  • Construction Support:
  • Provide ongoing support during the construction phase by clarifying design details, issuing design revisions, and ensuring that the construction team implements the design as intended.
  • Address any design-related issues that arise during construction, coordinating with contractors to find solutions.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
  • Ensure that all design-related documentation is properly managed and updated throughout the project.
  • Provide regular progress reports on design milestones, highlighting any challenges and solutions, and reporting to senior management or clients as required.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture (BArch ) or a related field. A Master’s degree or other relevant certifications is a plus.
  • Experience:
  • 10+ years of professional experience in architecture, with a strong portfolio of residential and commercial projects .
  • At least 8 years of experience in a senior design management role, leading teams and managing design processes.
  • Proven experience working on a range of residential and commercial projects , such as multi-family housing, mixed-use developments, office buildings, retail spaces, and hospitality projects.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Expertise in AutoCAD for creating detailed architectural drawings, including plans, sections, elevations, and construction details.
  • Proficiency in other design software (e.g., Revit , SketchUp , Adobe Creative Suite ) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry standards for residential and commercial architecture.
  • Familiarity with sustainable design practices and green building certifications (e.g., LEED ).
  • Leadership & Management:
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage, mentor, and motivate a team of architects and designers.
  • Experience in managing design schedules, resources, and budgets for multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, consultants, and contractors.
  • Communication & Client Management:
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate complex design concepts to clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong client relationships and manage client expectations.
  • Problem-Solving & Critical Thinking:
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to provide creative design solutions while managing technical constraints.
  • Ability to address issues that arise during design development and construction, ensuring smooth project execution.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications:
  • LEED accreditation or similar sustainability certifications.
  • Professional certifications such as RIBA , AIA , or equivalent are a plus.
  • Additional Software Knowledge:
  • Experience with BIM software (e.g., Revit , Navisworks ) is highly desirable.
  • Industry Knowledge:
  • Strong knowledge of trends in residential and commercial architecture, particularly in urban design, sustainability, and smart building technologies.
